Tigers Drop Conference Match at Faulkner
September 25, 2009
Montgomery, AL- The Brenau volleyball team lost their third match of the season tonight in a conference matchup with Faulkner University. The Tigers are now 9-3 and 1-2 in the conference, having dropped three of their last four matches after starting the season at 8-0. Faulkner picked up their first win of the season, winning in straight sets, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-19.BU actually won the statistical war, but lost the battle due to their inability to finish games because of mental lapses. Karen Green (24 receptions, 14 kills and seven digs), Courtney Frady (11 digs, 10 receptions, two kills, an assists and a block), Audra VanArsdale (31 assists, five digs, a kill and an ace), Maida Smajic (17 receptions and 11 digs) all played well statistically, but key mental errors at critical times spelled defeat once again. Alexis Arthur continues to pound the ball with 12 kills and Freshman MeKenna Cipres had nine receptions, four digs and a kill. "We are beating ourselves right now," said a frustrated Coach Meredith Matthews. "We have to put the mental part of our game together so that our talent can get the job done." The Tigers will now travel to Cleveland, TN next Tuesday to take on conference front-runner Lee University.
