Southern Wesleyan Outlasts Brenau

Gainesville, GA- The Brenau Golden Tigers volleyball team raced out to a two game lead in tonight's SSAC match with Southern Wesleyan only to lose another heartbreaker 25-23, 25-21, 26-28, 17-25, and 13-15. The loss drops BU to 1-4 in the conference and 9-5 overall. SWC is now 2-2 and 4-10. Senior setter Audra VanArsdale (Pelham, AL) tied her assist record with 48 and also had nine digs, six blocks and three kills in an outstanding individual performance.Junior hitter Meredith Hardin also had a great game, with a best ever 17 blocks to go with eight kills, a reception and a dig. But the performance of the night for the Tigers had to be Senior hitter Karen Green (Lawrenceville), who had a whopping 18 kills, 26 receptions, 13 digs, six blocks, an assist and an ace. Junior hitter Courtney Frady was also impressive with 14 kills, 13 digs, 12 receptions, four blocks, three assists and an ace. Kelsey Aley chipped in with 14 blocks and six kills and Maida Smajic contributed 27 receptions and 23 digs in a valiant effort from the back row. "It's not that we are playing badly and our effort is good, but we have breakdowns in communication at critical times in games," said Coach Meredith Matthews. Brenau will try to break their four game losing streak with a non conference match on Friday night at home against LaGrange.
