Columbia Slips Past Brenau

Gainesville, GA- The Brenau volleyball team (15-7, 1-5) engaged in another epic match tonight with conference foe Columbia College (19-5, 5-2) and again the Koalas came out on top in a very closely contested contest 25-23, 25-23, 10-25 and 25-23. It was clearly a match that could have gone either way, but the visitors made more plays at the end of each game to come out with the win.

Senior Outside Hitter Karen Green had another outstanding night with 10 kills, 15 receptions, 10 digs, nine blocks, two aces and an assist. Libero Maida Smajic led the way in the back row with 22 digs, 14 receptions, an assists and an ace, and Audra VanArsdale had 30 assists, seven digs, four blocks, three kills and two aces as the three seniors were solid once again. Meredith Hardin collected 12 blocks and five kills and Kelsey Aley had 10 blocks, four kills and two digs. Also contributed to the effort were Kerry Abernathy with 17 receptions, Alexis Arthur (nine kills) and Danelle Russell (13 receptions). "I was not disappointed with the way we played and I thought we did a great job of coming back in the third game after losing a couple of two point games. Our intensity level kept going up and down and it cost us in the close games," said Coach Meredith Matthews.
