Brenau Drops Two at Faulkner Invitational

Montgomery, Al - Sophomore Setter Mekenna Cipres (Murieta, Ca) had a big day at the Faulkner Invitational today, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell twice, first to new SSAC member Loyola, La by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-18; and then to Lindsey Wilson, Ky in a five set thriller 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9.
Loyola made quick work of Brenau in the morning match to improve their season mark to 16-11 as Danelle Russell had 15 digs and Cipres had 10 assists to go with six digs. Melissa Thornton had nine kills to again lead the Tigers in that category and Kerry Abernathy had 10 assists.
In the second match, Thornton had a huge game, with 18 kills and 15 digs. Cipres had a season high 20 assists and added 10 digs and Meredith Hardin came up with eight kills and six blocks. Russell had 12 digs and Alexis Arthur had seven kills and 11 digs.
Brenau will travel to Cleveland, Tn. on Tuesday to face NAIA #3 Lee University in a SSAC match.
