Tigers Finish Season With Win
November 6, 2010
Gainesville, Ga - It was Senior Day today at the Tiger Gym and the Brenau volleyball team sent their beloved teammates off in style with a gutty victory over SSAC foe Brewton Parker by scores of 25-8, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23. The Tigers finish their season with a 7-23 overall and 3-7 conference mark and the Barons finish winless in the SSAC and 19-14 overall.
The three seniors combined for 30 kills on the day as Courtney Frady (Ellijay) had 11, including the game winner to close out the match. Meredith Hardin (Cartersville) had 10 and Kelsey Aley (Tallahassee) finished with nine. Sophomore setter Mekenna Cipres (Murietta, Ca) also had an outstanding day with 29 assists, eight digs and four serving aces. She finishes the season with 38 aces. Sophomore Melissa Thornton (Woodstock) added 10 kills and finished the season with a team-leading 278. Junior Alexis Arthur (Aiken, SC) had nine kills (272 on the season) and six digs. Libero Danelle Russell (Cartersville) had 21 digs and finished the season with 499, good enough for third place in the SSAC.
Brenau opened the match with a dominating first game, riding the serving of Cipres and hitting of the seniors. Brewton Parker came back in the second game and from that point on, things were close all the way to the end. Near the end of the fourth and deciding game, Hardin put down two straight kills to help the Tigers pull away, and Frady knocked down the game winner to end it. Brenau finished the season with three straight wins to build momentum for next season and Coach Franklin will have plenty to work with going forward with eight returning experienced players.
