Brenau Defeats LaGrange, in 3 Straight Sets
GAINESVILLE, Ga - The Brenau University volleyball team advances their overall record to 2-0, after defeating LaGrange College in three straight sets. The Lady Panthers lost their first match of the season, with the scores 25-13, 25-12, and 25-20.
The Golden Tigers presented a solid offense against their opponents. "In our previous match, we were focused on running an effective defenseand we did a great job of that. So, when we stepped out against LaGrange, our goal was to be more aggressive with executing our offensive plays", commented Coach Franklin.
Junior outside hitter, Danelle Russell (Cartersville, GA) played a great match; she led the team with 9 kills, and added 12 digs, 1 service ace, and 1 assist. Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, GA) was following right behind with 8 kills, 13 digs, 1 block, and 1 dig.
"As we get further in our season, and gain more experience from game scenarios, we aim to strengthen our defense even furtherwithout an efficient defense, we have no hope of building our offense", added Coach Franklin.
Kerry Abernathy (Celebration, FL) contributed greatly in the Golden Tiger's match, as she collected 7 kills, 12 assists, and 4 digs. Mekenna Cipres (Murrieta, CA), determined not to be out done, ended the night with 3 kills, 18 assists, 5 service aces, and 4 digs.
The middle blockers made a presence on the court, as they ranked among the top hitters on the team. Alexis Arthur (Aikens, SC) really stepped up her game, as she earned 6 kills, 10 digs, 3 blocks, and a single assists. Rachel Adam (Athens, GA) added 5 kills and 5 blocks, against the Lady Panthers.
Coach Franklin concluded by saying, "I am very pleased with the effort this team has put forth. They are making aggressive plays consistently, no matter what the score may be. That, in and of itself, is an accomplishment for our program!"
