Brenau Falls To Piedmont

Gainesville, Ga - The Golden Tigers volleyball team played another tough match last night, against Piedmont College. As the home team, they fed off their fans' intensity in the first set, but quickly calmed down to find themselves behind in the final three. Piedmont delivered Brenau with their fourth straight loss; by the scores 25-11, 22-25, 16-25, and 23-25.

Brenau executed their offense well in the first set. However, as the Golden Tigers began to get comfortable in the second set, Piedmont's team was just getting warmed up, with their defense drastically changing their focus. Throughout the second and third set Brenau trailed behind, attempting to tie up the score several times.

When the fourth set began, Brenau was playing tight with their opponent. However mid-way through the set, Piedmont broke out with an eight point lead. The Golden Tigers were behind the Lions 14-22, when they made a valiant effort by committing to a 6 point run. Brenau rally to bring the score to 23-24, but was unable to protect the servegiving Piedmont the game point.

Senior middle, Alexis Arthur (Aiken, SC), was unstoppable, earning 14 kills, 1 service ace, 22 digs, and 7 blocks. Rachel Adam (Athens, GA), freshman middle, had an amazing night as well, totaling 10 kills and 13 blocks. Melissa Thornton (Woodstock, GA) came in strong from the outside, with 8 kills, 2 service aces, 21 digs, and a single block.

The Golden Tigers will return to play this weekend, as they host the SSAC Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 30-Oct. 1)
