Brenau Volleyball Team Earns SSAC Recognition
November 14, 2012
The Brenau volleyball team finished a noteworthy season last week with a monumental victory over top-seeded Spring Hill College in the SSAC Tournament, and came away with several individual SSAC Honors. The Golden Tigers finished the season with a 20-11 overall record, and 7-7 in conference, marking the first non-losing conference record in Brenau volleyball history.
Melissa Thornton was awarded First Team All-Conference for her athletic exploits, and Sydney Koon was named Second Team All-Conference. Thornton led Brenau in total kills and digs and is ranked #46 in NAIA in kills/set, while Koon led the team in attack percentage and is ranked #42 in NAIA.
Establishing another first in the volleyball program, six Golden Tigers were represented on the All-Academic Team for attaining at least a 3.2 GPA in the classroom: Rachel Adam, Tanisha Fields, Lindsay Kelly, Ellen Lemos, Danelle Russell, and Thornton. Kelly was named Brenau's Champion of Character.
The Golden Tigers completed a ground-breaking season with 20 wins, top two finish in the SSAC Central pod, a winning record at home, and a victory over top-seeded Spring Hill in the conference tournament.
