Volleyball Sweeps RedHawks; Qualifies For SSAC Tournament
Going into Tuesday's match versus Martin Methodist, the Brenau Golden Tigers volleyball team had extra incentive to win as a victory would place them in the SSAC tournament. The young Golden Tigers answered the challenge with a 3-0 sweep over the visiting RedHawks, winning 25-23, 25-17, 25-20,
Ellen Lemos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) earned her 10th double double of the season with 17 kills and 15 digs, while Rachel Adam (Athens, GA) added 10 kills and 2 blocks, and Pam Konken (Stockbridge, GA) contributed 9 kills and 14 digs. Bailey Hicks (Buford, GA) efficiently ran the offense with 40 assists and added 7 digs on defense. Lindsay Kelly (Cumming, GA) led the defense with 19 digs, denying the offensive attack of the Red Hawks.
Brenau dominated the match from the opening serve and never let Martin Methodist gain any momentum. The Golden Tigers had season high marks in attack percentage (0.292), and digs (70).
"I'm proud of our team for bouncing back after a tough mid-season and qualifying for the SSAC Tournament for the second year in a row," said head coach Jeff White. "We will go to the tournament and represent Brenau well."
The Golden Tigers are now 5-8 in SSAC play and 11-16 overall. The next match is Friday at Talladega (AL) College at 8:00 pm eastern.
