Golden Tigers Volleyball Tames Tornadoes
The Brenau Golden Tigers volleyball team traveled to Talladega (AL) College Friday night and emerged with a four set victory, 24-26, 25-8, 25-21, 25-15.
In the win, two Golden Tigers had double-doubles for the first time this season as Ellen Lemos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Pam Konken (Stockbridge, GA) recorded 18 kills, 14 digs and 12 kills, 11 digs respectively. Rachel Adam (9 kills, 7.5 blocks, 5 digs) and Jasmine Jones (5 kills, 6 digs) also contributed on the offensive and defensive end of the floor. Bailey Hicks (Buford, GA) ran an efficient offense recording 44 assists while adding eight digs and a huge solo block. Lindsay Kelly (Cumming, GA) played well in the back row with 25 kills while Chelsea Foster (Roswell, GA) added with three aces and 20 digs.
In the first set, the Golden Tigers were unable to slow down the Tornadoes, making crucial mistakes and falling 28-26. After losing the first set, Brenau answered with a dominating second set, hitting 0.353 and earning the win, 25-8. Consistent play and excellent defense allowed the Golden Tigers to finish off the match, 25-18, 25-15.
"We are on the longest win streak of the season (4 matches) and it is a direct result of our players' hard work and determination," said head coach Jeff White. "We have renewed energy and confidence, which is perfect timing as we approach the SSAC Tournament in less than 2 weeks."
With the win, the Golden Tigers improve to 12-16 on the season and return to Gainesville for home matches on Tuesday at 7:00 eastern against Bethel (TN) University, Thursday at 7:00 eastern against Dalton State (GA) College, and Friday at 7:00 eastern against Clark Atlanta for Senior Night.
