Brenau Volleyball Downs Dalton
The Brenau volleyball team earned their sixth consecutive win by defeating non-conference opponent Dalton State (Ga.) College on Thursday night, 25-19, 25-15, 24-26, 25-19.
The Golden Tigers jumped out to a two-set lead quickly behind a strong middle attack driven by Rachel Adam's outstanding performance. The junior from Athens, Ga. had 14 kills and 6 blocks and a 0.444 attack percentage. Ellen Lemos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had a strong performance also, earning her sixth consecutive double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs and adding 4 service aces as well. Pam Konken (Stockbridge, Ga.) contributed 8 kills and 16 digs while Bailey Hicks (Buford, Ga.) directed the offense accumulating 37 assists. Ashley Jackson (Hoschton, Ga.) and Jasmine Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) rounded out the scoring with two kills each. Defensively, Lindsay Kelly (Cumming, Ga.) and Chelsea Foster (Roswell, Ga.) had 18 and 12 digs respectively.
In the third set, the Roadrunners played well and forced a fourth set by taking advantage of Brenau's poor play and 7 hitting errors. However, the Golden Tigers rebounded with a resounding finish to secure the win.
"I think we got complacent and were unable to finish the match in three sets. We cannot afford these types of lapses as we prepare for the conference tournament," said head coach Jeff White. "I am proud of the way they came back and took control of the fourth set after the letdown to finish on a positive note."
On Friday, the Golden Tigers will recognize their two seniors, Ashley Jackson and Ellen Lemos, before their match against Clark-Atlanta University at 7:00 pm eastern in the Brenau University Fitness Center.
