Volleyball Finishes With Clean Sweep
The Brenau University volleyball team ended the final week of regular season with three consecutive wins, defeating Clark Atlanta University, St. Andrews (N.C.) College and Milligan (Tn.) College.
The Golden Tigers defeated Clark Atlanta in four sets, 23-25, 25-13, 25-12, 25-22. Offensively, Rachel Adam (Athens, Ga.) led all scorers with 19 kills, followed by Ellen Lemos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) with 11 kills, and Pam Konken (Stockbridge, Ga.) with 10 kills. Lemos registered her 12th double-double of the season and 7th in a row by adding 16 digs. Adam stuffed the Panthers with 3.5 blocks and Lindsay Kelly (Cumming, Ga.) had 26 digs to secure the back line.
St. Andrews College did not fare well against Brenau losing in three sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. Ellen Lemos, added another double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. Pam Konken added 9 kills and 13 digs, while Rachel Adam contributed 8 kills and 2.5 blocks and Lindsay Kelly had 21 digs in the victory.
The Golden Tigers finished the season by beating Milligan College in three sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22. Ellen Lemos had 14 kills and 12 digs, Pam Konken had 8 kills and 16 digs, and Rachel Adam added 7 kills and 3.5 blocks. Freshman Jasmine Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) added 7 kills and Lindsay Kelly chipped in 29 digs.
Brenau (17-16) ended the season with a school-record nine-match win streak which gave the Golden Tigers a second straight winning season. Ellen Lemos had 14 double-doubles on the year, including nine in a row to close out the season.
"I am so proud of our players for ending the regular season on a long win streak and a positive note. They have worked so hard and deserve the fruits of their labor," said head coach Jeff White. "Hopefully, we will ride this wave of confidence into the conference tournament in the upcoming week."
The Golden Tigers, who earned the #8 seed in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament, travels Thursday to Montgomery, AL. to play Emmanuel (Ga.) College at 10 and University of Mobile (Al.) at 3 pm.
