Volleyball Splits to Open SSAC Play
In the opening weekend of Southern States Athletic Conference play, the Brenau volleyball team split matches versus Coastal Georgia and Brewton Parker.
Against Coastal Georgia, Brenau pushed the Mariners to the limit but ultimately fell in five sets. After the Mariners slipped by with a 22-25 first set win, the Golden Tigers responded in the second set with a 25-23 victory to tie up the match.
Coastal Georgia secured the third set with a 25-16 win, while Brenau continued to trade sets, taking the fourth set 27-25. The Golden Tigers were unable to hold on in the deciding fifth set, dropping the set 7-15 to take the loss.
In the first set of the Saturday match, the Golden Tigers overwhelmed Brewton Parker 25-10 and followed up their strong play with a 25-16 win in set two and a 25-11 win in set three.
"The team was very excited to play at home this weekend," said head coach Michael Carter. "Despite the tough loss to a very good Coastal Georgia team, we took a big step in learning how to play as a unit. That experience served us well in the match against Brewton Parker. The challenge now is to carry that momentum through our upcoming matches.
Brenau (4-3, 1-1 SSAC) next travels to Milligan (Tenn.) College on Saturday for non-conference matches versus Union (Ky.) College and host Milligan.
