Volleyball Sweeps Dalton State
In an SSAC matchup, the Brenau volleyball team slipped past conference newcomer Dalton State (Ga.) University 25-22, 25-22, 25-20 on Tuesday night in Gainesville.
After winning the opening set 25-22, the Golden Tigers followed up in the second set with another 25-22 win. In the third set, the home team held off the visiting Roadrunners with a 25-20 win to sweep the match.
Senior Sydney Koon led the attack with a team-high 14 kills. Sophomore Jasmine Jones added seven kills, while fellow sophomore Pam Konken added five kills. Senior defensive specialist Lindsay Kelly added 15 digs, while Bailey Hicks and Konken combined for 26 assists.
"We've spent a lot of time in practice competing and working on doing the little things," said head coach Michael Carter. "Against a very tough Dalton State team, I think that really paid off for us. The team was very consistent in executing on our side of the net and we played a very composed game when Dalton State was putting pressure on us. That is especially evident in set two when we were able to come back after being several points down. Really good team effort tonight".
Brenau (5-5, 2-1 SSAC) travels west to face conference opponents University of Mobile (Ala.) on Friday at 8:30 eastern and Loyola (LA.) University at 3 pm eastern.
