The Brenau volleyball team had an outstanding weekend of conference play with wins over Faulkner (Ala.) University and Belhaven (Miss.) University.
Against Faulkner, Brenau won the first two sets, 25-20, to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Continuing to ride their momentum, Brenau easily won the last set 25-17 to secure their eighth win of the season.
Senior Sydney Koon notched 14 kills and 9 digs, while freshman Cayla Graham added 10 kills.
Against Belhaven, the Golden Tigers overwhelmed the Blazers in the first set with a resounding 25-14 win. After Belhaven forced an early tie in the second set 10-10, Brenau went on the attack and finished the set 25-17.
After being down 2-0, the Blazers jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the third set. The Golden Tigers answered with a rally to take a 19-18 lead, but the lead didn't hold as the Golden Tigers dropped the set 22-25.
In the fourth set, Belhaven seized an early 10-6 advantage and pulled away for a 25-14 win to force a fifth set.
In the final frame, Brenau controlled the pace and cruised to a 15-6 win to secure the match.
"It was nice to get two wins against conference opponents and the wins were big for the program," said head coach Michael Carter. "The girls played really hard and executed the game plan. Sydney Koon led the way for us and I am very pleased with our performances this weekend.
Koon led the Golden Tigers with 19 kills, while Jasmine Jones added 11 kills of her own. Chelsea Foster, Bailey Hicks and Pam Konken combined for 42 assists.
Brenau (9-6, 5-2 SSAC) continues conference play as the Golden Tigers travel to Bethel (Tenn.) University on Friday for an 8 pm match.
