Adam Named SSAC Volleyball Player of the Week
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Rachel Adam has been selected as the SSAC Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The senior middle blocker was chosen for her performance during the week of Oct. 13-19. As the conference selection, Adam will be automatically nominated for the NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week award.
Adam led Brenau to a 2-1 week, with wins over conference foe Loyola (La.) (25-19, 25-16, 18-25, 25-18) and in-state rival Truett-McConnell (Ga.) (25-23, 25-10, 25-19). The Golden Tigers fell to Mobile (Ala.), which is ranked second in the SSAC at 11-2 in conference, in straight sets (21-25, 17-25, 24-26). With this week's results, Brenau moved to 12-9 on the year and 6-5 in SSAC play, which is good for fourth in the conference.
Adam recorded a season-high 15 kills against Loyola and also broke double-digits against Truett-McConnell with 12 kills—leading the team in the category for both contests. She also added eight kills against Mobile, two behind team-leader Sydney Koon, who had 10 in the three-set match. Adam also recorded 10 blocks and seven digs over the three-match span.
On the week, Adam tallied 35 kills on 56 attacks to average 3.50 kills per set and earn a .518 hitting percentage.
The Athens, Ga., native currently leads the Golden Tigers in blocks (69), including a team-high 22 solo blocks, and hitting percentage (.290). She also ranks second on the team in kills (154) behind Koon, who ranks second in the SSAC with 268 kills. On the conference level, Adam ranks fifth in blocks (69) and blocks per set (.90).
Adam's selection makes Brenau the second program to have multiple players honored as SSAC Volleyball Players of the Week in 2014.
