The Brenau volleyball team split two Southern States Athletic Conference matches over the weekend, losing 3-0 to University of Mobile (Ala.) but defeating Loyola (La.) University 3-1.
Against Mobile, Brenau lost the first set 25-12, but rallied to push the second set to 26-24. Mobile used a strong attack to finish the match 25-12. The Golden Tigers struggled in attack, posting a .076 percentage in the three-set loss.
On Saturday, the Golden Tigers found their rhythm to defeat the Wolfpack in four sets (25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16) to capture their ninth win of the season.
Three Golden Tigers posted double-digit kills as Sydney Koon (17 kills), Cayla Graham (14 kills) and Allie Smith (12) led the attack. Koon posted a season-high 23 digs, while Bailey Hicks (11), Carlee Praznik (12) and Graham (11) also added double-digit digs.
"We played inspired against Loyola," said head coach Michael Carter. "Cayla [Graham] and Allie [Smith] led the way as both had an outstanding match. We got a much needed conference win as we head down the stretch before the SSAC tournament".
Brenau (9-15 overall, 3-9 SSAC) next travels to Faulkner (Ala.) University on Friday for a 7 pm eastern match.
