Volleyball Drops Two At Faulkner Invitational
The Brenau volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Webber International (Fla.) University and University of Mobile (Ala.) on the final day of the Faulkner Invitational on Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama.
Against Webber (3-1), the Golden Tigers struggled offensively, falling in three sets to the Warriors, 25-12, 25-12, 25-13, while in the final match of the invitational, Brenau lost to the University of Mobile (4-0) 25-12, 25-16, 25-13.
The young Golden Tigers squad earned valuable experience during the tournament as nine freshmen, three sophomores and three juniors faced stiff competition in preparation for their conference slate.
For the tournament, Brenau had strong performances from a trio of freshmen as Karlie Moss, Atiana Lewis and Delanie Smith played in their first collegiate matches. During the four-match invitational, Moss led the team with 37 kills, while Lewis added 21 kills and Smith notched eight kills and eight blocks. Returning standouts Haley Ponder and Savannah Wilbanks also had a solid weekend as Ponder added 16 kills and Wilbanks had 80 total assists.
Brenau (1-3 overall) next faces Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College at the Life University Running Eagles Classic in Marietta, Georgia next Friday.
