Volleyball Falls to Bluefield
The Brenau volleyball team pushed Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bluefield College to four sets, but ultimately lost 21-25, 18-25, 25-23, 10-25 in Bluefield, Virginia on Friday.
In the first set, the Golden Tigers jumped out to an early 14-8 lead over the host Rams. However, the home team answered with an 8-1 run to take the lead at 16-15, and then edged out Brenau 25-21 down the stretch to take the set.
After dropping the second set, the Golden Tigers led 24-23 late in the third set as Savannah Wilbanks assisted freshman Atiana Lewis for one of her 12 kills to close out the score 25-23. However, the Rams ran away with the final set with a convincing 25-10 final period for a 3-1 victory.
Wilbanks led the Golden Tigers with 35 assists, while Savannah Combs and Jordan Diaz combined for 25 digs. Karlee Moss also notched 11 kills and nine digs.
Brenau (2-10 overall, 1-1 AAC) next plays a Saturday doubleheader as the team travels to play an AAC match against Union College at 11 am eastern and the University of the Cumberlands in a non-conference matchup at 1 pm eastern in Barbourville, Kentucky.
