Volleyball Falls on Opening Day of Faulkner Invitational
The Brenau volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the 2018 season, but looks to rebound today at the Faulkner Invitational, hosted by Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
The young Golden Tigers squad-which features nine freshman and sophomores-, faced a stiff test in their opening match against 2018 SSAC champions, the University of Mobile (RV). After falling 25-17 in the first set, Brenau rallied to take a second set lead but came up just short at 25-22.. The team couldn't recapture any momentum in the final set as the Rams pulled past the Golden Tigers 25-10 to take the match.
Senior Haley Ponder led the Golden Tigers with seven kills and a .462 attack percentage, while Jordan Diaz chipped in seven digs.
In the second match of the day, Brenau competed well but lost to host Faulkner in three sets, 25-14, 25-21 25-15. Setters Nitaira Wilkes and Sydney Norton combined for 21 assists in the match.
The team plays Webber International today at 2pm central/3 pm eastern and William Carey University at 6 pm central/7 pm eastern. Live streaming and live stats can be found here and here.
