Volleyball Falls on Day Two of Life Classic
The Brenau volleyball team wrapped up the Life University Running Eagles Classic with losses to Freed Hardeman (TN) University and Johnson and Wales (FL) University on Saturday in Marietta, GA.
Against Freed Hardeman, the Golden Tigers lost the first set 25-13, but rallied to win set two 25-23 to even the match 1-1. However, the momentum was short lived as the Lions swept the final two sets, 25-15 and 25-13 to close out the match.
Nicole Ighile led Brenau with nine kills, while Haley Ponder added seven kills in the match. Jordan Diaz also chipped in ten digs in the loss.
In the second match of the day, Johnson and Wales won the first set 25-22, but again the Golden Tigers answered with a 25-21 second set victory. Brenau fell short in both the third and fourth sets (25-22, 25-16) to take their seventh loss of the season.
Abigayle Towns led the Golden Tigers with a career-high nine kills and Rachel Hodges added a career-high seven kills.
Ighile was also named to the Running Eagles Classic All-Tournament team for her performance over the two-day event.
Brenau (1-7 overall) opens Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Thursday when the squad travels to take on Allen University (2-3 overall) for a 6:30 match in Columbia, SC.
