Volleyball Falls to Point University in AAC Doubleheader
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau volleyball team pushed the visiting Point (Ga.) University Skyhawks, but came up just short in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader on Tuesday.
In game one, the host Golden Tigers won the first set 25-18, but were unable to hold on the victory as the Skyhawks rallied to take the final three sets (20-25, 20-25, 21-25) and secure the match.
Junior Rachel Hodges posted 13 kills and freshman Chloe Bennett had 11 kills. Setter Sydney Norton had a team-high 17 assists and 11 digs, while fellow setter Rocio Santiago added 14 assists and eight digs. Sophomore Julieanne Saliba led the defense with 22 digs and senior Kayleigh Reece chipped in seven digs.
The Golden Tigers were outhit .204 to .115 by the Skyhawks.
In the second game, Point opened the match with a commanding 25-14 first set win. However, Brenau responded with a 25-20 second set victory to even the match. Both teams battled in the third and fourth set, however, Point edged past the home team for the victory.
Senior Lanier Leonard led the attack with nine kills and Hodges added eight kills.
Brenau (1-13 overall, 1-13 AAC) next hosts St. Andrews (N.C.) University (3-11 overall, 3-11 AAC) on Thursday at 6:30 pm. The match will be livestreamed here.
