The Brenau volleyball team split a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matches with a 3-0 loss to Milligan (Tenn.) University and a 3-2 victory over Montreat (NC) College this past weekend.
In the opening match against Milligan, the Golden Tigers pushed the host Buffaloes but came up short in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 27-25) loss.
Junior Mary Ellen Enright and freshman Malone Davis led the attack with 10 kills each, while junior setter Gabrielle Hogle had 22 assists.
Against Montreat, the Cavaliers jumped out to an early two set lead (25-22, 25-18), however, the Golden Tigers responded with two straight set victories (25-21, 25-18) to send the match into a fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Golden Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Cavaliers answered with a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to 6-5.
On the ensuing play, Davis notched a kill to increase the lead to 7-5, which started a 6-0 Brenau run. Montreat answered with two consecutive points to narrow the margin to 11-7, but two consecutive ball handling errors on the Cavaliers stifled any momentum and increased the Brenau lead to 13-7.
