Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau volleyball team split a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference home matches as the squad defeated Bluefield (Va.) 3-1, but fell to Pikeville (Ky.) 3-1 this past weekend.
Against Bluefield (7-6 overall, 3-6 AAC), junior Ashlyn Browning posted 13 kills and junior Jomaris Maldonado and freshman Alyssa Evans each had 15 digs in a 3-1 (25-16, 11-25, 25-15, 25-18) win.
Setter Nathalia Quintero also had a solid all-around performance with 24 assists and 12 digs.
On Saturday, the squad started fast with a 25-23 first set match, but were upended by the visiting University of Pikeville Bears (9-11 overall, 5-3 AAC) in a 3-1 (25-23, 28-30, 23-25, 20-25) loss.
Browning again led the attack with 16 kills and added 14 digs. Evans posted another strong match with 10 kills and 13 digs, and junior Claire Beckman had 14 kills.
Maldonado led the defense with 15 digs, and senior Dallas Morse also chipped in 10 digs.
The Golden Tigers hit the road this week with a match versus Bryan (Tenn.) College (2-23 overall, 0-8 AAC) on Friday at 6:30 pm Eastern.
