Cross Country Finishes Second At Crimson Classic
At the Alabama Crimson Classic, the Brenau cross country team finished in second place for their fourth straight top-three finish of the 2014 season.
Brenau finished close behind NCAA II Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University and ahead of NCAA II University West Alabama and SSAC member Blue Mountain (Miss.) College.
Senior Brittany Aikens finished in fourth place out of 66 runners in 19:42 to lead the Golden Tigers. Junior Utami Ketchem was six seconds behind in fifth place, posting a 19:48, while Deishane' Honeycutt followed in 16th place with a 20:38.
The remaining top six finishers placed well as Jasmine Ray (20:47) finished in 20th place and Kaitlyn Gearing (22:08) placed 30th, while Tyana Luna (22:28) and Sarah Saenz (22:32) wrapped up 35th and 36th place respectively.
Other finishers include Monika Nwajei (41st), Natalie Williams (43rd), Brianna Archer (45th), Ismaelle Occeus (47th), Aunica Clinton (48th) and Anazjah Mayes (64th).
The Golden Tigers maintained an average time of 20:36.
"This was a huge race with 291 total runners on the course," said head coach Susan McIntyre. "Due to the size, it changes the way the team races. Every runner on the team was racing past other runners so our team score would improve. It was a great team effort!"
Brenau continues their strong season next Saturday at the Sand Shark Invitational in Beaufort, S.C. at 9:45 am.
