Cross Country Places Fifth at Dalton State
In the first meet of the season, the Brenau cross country team finished fifth at the Dalton State Twilight Classic at Prater's Mill in Dalton, Ga. on Friday.
Tyana Luna led the Golden Tigers in the 4K race with a 12th place finish in 17:49. Jasmine Ray finished in 21st place in 18:36 and Deishane' Honeycutt held down the third place spot in 19:05.
Senior Vanessa Alexander finished in fourth place (36th overall) for the Golden Tigers in 20:02, while Monika Nwajei rounded out the scorers with a 38th place finish (20:02).
Other Brenau finishers include Anazjah Mayes (21:44/51st place) and Ismaelle Occeus (22:17/55th place).
"I am proud of the way we raced today," said head coach Heather Estetter, in her first race at the helm of the Golden Tigers. "We are battling injuries right now, but we are showing mental toughness and are starting to understand what is going to help us excel to the top of the conference".
SCAD-Savannah finished first in the meet, while host and fellow SSAC Member Dalton State College placed second. Fellow SSAC members William Carey (Miss.) College and Loyola (La.) University finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Brenau next races at the University of North Georgia Invitational in Gainesville, Ga. on September 19th.
