Cross Country Wins Piedmont Invitational
The Brenau cross country team outpaced the competition to capture first place at the Piedmont Invitational in Demorest, Georgia on Saturday.
Racing in wet conditions, the Golden Tigers placed five of the top six runners to overwhelm host Piedmont College, Agnes Scott (Ga.) College, Toccoa Falls (Ga.) College and Oglethorpe (Ga.) University.
Jasmine Ray placed second overall with a 24:56.76, while fellow senior Tyana Luna finished close behind in 25:01.77. Deishane' Honeycutt ran to fourth place in 25:19.05, freshman Michelle Velazquez placed fifth in 25:44.11 and Nia Griffin rounded out the top six in 25:55.68.
Other Brenau finishers include Anazjah Mayes (15th place/29.27.22), Aunica Clinton (19th place/30:50.60) and Felicia Gordon (24th/34:30.30).
The girls went out on the course today with great determination and confidence," said head coach Heather Estetter. "They knew the course was muddy and the rain was heavy, but that was not enough to stop the Golden Tigers!"
"Today was a great example of how to adapt and overcome and I am very proud of these ladies!"
Brenau next races at the Gene Mullin Invitational hosted by Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
