Cross Country Earns SSAC Postseason Honors
Five members of the Brenau Cross Country team were recognized by the Southern States Athletic Conference in their post season awards on Sunday.
Jasmine Ray and Deishane' Honeycutt both earned SSAC All-Conference honors by virtue of their finishes at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships in Clinton, Mississippi last week.
Ray, a 2014 All-Conference selection, also qualified for the NAIA National Championships in Charlotte, NC, for her sixth place finish at the conference meet.
Ray is only the third Brenau cross country runner to earn a spot at the NAIA Nationals, following former Golden Tigers Brittany Aikens and Utami Ketchem.
Honeycutt placed 10th at the conference meet in 20:03 to earn her second consecutive All Conference nod. The senior was also the Brenau Champions of Character selection for her representation of the NAIA Five Core values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
Brenau also earned four SSAC All-Academic team honors as Honeycutt, Aunica Clinton, Monika Nwajei and Ismaelle Occeus were recognized for academic excellence. Honorees must have completed two terms of attendance, a minimum of 24 credit hours and have attained at least a grade point average3.25 or higher. Clinton, Nwajei and Occeus were also selected as All-Academic performers in 2014.
"Having two all-conference athletes is a great honor and I am so proud of how these ladies [Jasmine and Deishane] have worked this season," said head coach Heather Estetter. "Brenau has always made sure that academics are a priority and I am proud that our women take pride in their studies."
