Cross Country Opens Season At WCU Festival

The Brenau cross country team opened the 2017 season with a good showing at the Western Carolina Cross County Festival in Cullowee, NC on Saturday.

Against Division I, NAIA and Division III competition, the team posted a team average of 13:48.70 and a total team time of 1:09:03.47 to finish in fifth place in the two-mile event.

In her first collegiate meet, freshman Bianca Braz led the Golden Tigers with a time of 12:53.87 to place 28^th overall, while junior Michelle Velazquez posted a time of 13:12.62 to place 32^nd.

Other Brenau finishers include Nia Griffin (13:14.32/35^th), Sydney Romine (14:44.87/46^th), Harley Stephens (14:57.79/47^th), Keri Ashworth (15:53.50/51^st), Elizabeth Lowe (15:59.57/52^nd), Giovanna Sifontes (16:38.57/54^th) and Taylor Love (17:34.02/55^th).

The team next competes at the Furman XC Classic in Greenville, South Carolina on September 9^th.
