Cross Country Runs at UNG Invitational
The Brenau cross-country team had a strong showing at the UNG Invitational, hosted by the University of North Georgia on Saturday in Oakwood.
Running in their first 5K event of the season, the Golden Tigers placed eighth out of 15 teams, posting a team average of 22:17.
Three runners finished under the 22-minute mark as Michelle Velazquez, Bianca Braz and Nia Griffin each continued their strong starts to the season. Velazquez and Braz each posted a time of 21:02 which earned them 27th and 28th respectively, while Griffin ran 21:58 which placed 42nd.
Newcomer Keri Ashworth (23:38) and sophomore Sydney Romine (23:41) finished within three seconds of each other to place 61st and 62nd respectively, while Harley Stephens (24:07) and Elizabeth Lowe (25:07) each had solid showings.
As a team, the squad earned 220 points for a solid eighth place showing in the competitive field. Host University of North Georgia won the meet, while SCAD-Atlanta, Emory (Ga.) University, Albany State (Ga.) University and Dalton (Ga.) State University rounded out the top five finishers.
Brenau next runs at the 2017 Bulldog Stampede, hosted by Wingate University on September 23rd in Wingate, NC.
