Cross Country Places Second at Season Opener
In the 2018 season team opening meet, the Brenau cross country team placed three runners among the top ten finishers to capture second place at the Palmetto State Cross Country Festival hosted by Columbia International in Columbia, SC on Saturday.
Freshman Shannon Hoolahan opened her Golden Tigers career with a first place finish to pace the squad. The Hoschton, Georgia native raced to a time of 20:59.60 to outdistance Columbia College's Alyssa Waibel by 16 seconds.
Fellow freshman Zoie Gardner placed sixth overall with a time of 22:34.76, while sophomore Bianca Orr captured seventh overall place in 23:21.18.
Nia Griffin had a solid showing with a time of 23:40.37 to place eleventh overall, while Juliette Rios ran 26:43.01 to take 27th place.
Other Golden Tiger finishers include Alexia Ruiz Rodriguez (35:11.67/33rd place) and Harley Stephens (36:31.04/34th place).
The team earned 47 points to place second behind fellow AAC team Columbia College (35 points). Bob Jones University (62 points) and USC-Beaufort (76 points) rounded out the field.
Brenau next competes at the Middle Georgia State Invitational on Saturday in Macon, Georgia.
