Akin Takes Individual Title at Bruins Classic
Greenville, South Carolina- Freshman Averie Akin won her first collegiate race and paced the Golden Tigers cross-country team at the Bruins XC Invitational on Friday.
In the 4,000-meter (4K) race, Akin posted a time of 16:01 to outlast Addison Martin from AAC rival Columbia (SC) by eight seconds. Akin averaged a 6.26 mile which paced the field of 42 runners.
Fellow freshman Gladys Bianco placed 14th by running a time of 17:40, while sophomore Jaeva Ridley ran 19:56 to place 29th. Freshman Alondra Rivera finished 32nd in a time of 20.36.
The Golden Tigers next race at the UNG Invite on September 15th.
