Knoxville, Tennessee.- Senior Sophie Schweizer scored in the 89th minute to push the Brenau soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Johnson (Tenn.) University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match on Saturday.
After both squads battled to a scoreless draw for almost two full halves, junior forward Madi McMahon was fouled with under a minute to play. With the Golden Tigers awarded a penalty kick, Schweizer beat Royal keeper Kaitlyn Pope to secure the team's fifth win of the season.
The Brenau defense played solidly all afternoon, and keeper Zyara Gonzalez-Galeano saved five shots to notch her fourth consecutive clean sheet and earn the victory.
The Golden Tigers outshot the host Royals (2-4-1 overall, 1-3 AAC) 16-12 in the match.
Brenau (5-2-1 overall, 3-1-1 AAC) next continues road conference play against Tennessee Wesleyan (5-1 overall, 4-1 AAC) on Wednesday at 3 pm Eastern.
