Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau soccer team scored a late second-half goal to defeat Johnson (Tenn.) University 1-0 in the opening round of the 2025 Appalachian Athletic Conference match on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first half, the Golden Tigers finally broke through in the 79th minute as freshman Lily Scott found sophomore Madison Kitson to break the scoreless tie.
The Golden Tigers held fast for the final eleven minutes of the match to advance to the next round of the tournament.
Keeper Zyara Gonzalez-Galeano saved nine shots on goal to earn the victory.
Brenau (9-7-1 overall) next travels to face second-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan (12-2 overall) on Saturday.
